Ears

The seat of balance, and linked to wisdom

October 23rd 2013
Our physical balance depends on the functioning of a centre in the inner ear. This centre consists of semi-circular canals full of a liquid in which tiny crystals swim. On the walls of these canals are ciliated cells joined to nerves that transmit sound messages very rapidly to the brain. This device only functions well if you keep exercising it, and tightrope walkers, for example, can make it function so perfectly that it reacts instantaneously when there’s no time left for them to think what movement they should be making. Physical balance depends on this device in the ear; that is why initiates have linked the ears to wisdom. Whatever happens, wisdom always knows how to restore balance in us, but only if we remain vigilant so as to be aware of the currents passing through us. As soon as we feel some negative element stealing into our head or heart, we should immediately call on this inner principle, and it will keep us in the regions of light and stop us from falling.
