Escalator

The equivalent in us

In stations, airports or department stores, you have no doubt had occasion to take the escalator. You will have gone over to the escalator, which was stationary, and placed your foot on the first step. Suddenly it started to move, taking you up or down to the next floor. What had happened? By placing your foot on the step you simply interrupted a beam of light, and that was enough to release the mechanism and start up this enormous escalator weighing tons. This same process takes place in the inner life. Each thought or feeling passing through you interrupts a beam somewhere, and certain mechanisms inside you start working. If, instead of going up, you go crashing down to hell, it is because you had the kinds of thoughts and feelings that activate the downward escalator. Don’t think you can harbour any kind of thought or feeling without provoking inner changes. Depending on their nature, they will trigger a release, causing you to go either up or down.
