Customs

Also exist in the spiritual world

Disciples who commit to the path of true evolution are like travellers crossing a border. As they are carrying all sorts of baggage, accumulated over thousands of years, they are stopped by the guards, who say, ‘My friend, the path is long and rough. These things you are laden with are cumbersome, useless and even harmful. You must leave them here.’ And they force disciples to get rid of what is heavy and dark and preventing them from being at one with the purity and light they wish to attain. Crossing the border is not easy, as it is always painful to give things up. But as the disciples wish to ascend, they must accept the cost. If they persevere, soon they will pass through customs again at the border of another region… until they reach the heavenly land fully liberated and merge with the Source of eternal life. If you don’t want to be forever stopped by heaven’s customs, become the guard of your own inner world. When you eat, you are careful not to take just anything in; in the same way, be careful about the quality of the thoughts and feelings you allow in. To each thought and each feeling that comes to you, say, ‘Wait a moment, where have you come from?’ And only accept those that will strengthen you spiritually.
