Beauty

Is made for the eyes only

July 13th 2014
Beauty exercises such a powerful fascination over humans that they are always tempted to approach it to touch it, take hold of it and possess it. But beauty cannot be possessed: in essence it does not belong to the physical world, and as soon as we attempt to touch it even lightly it slips away. Beauty is a world made exclusively for the eyes; it is not meant for the hands or for the mouth. It likes to be looked at, but it cannot bear to be touched. So we should always be very careful when we meet people who are very beautiful. If our attitude is not right, we may chase away the entities living in them that give them such harmony and grace. And if the entities go away, we will suffer, for we will lose this feeling of wonder, this intangible element that also made our life beautiful. Our joy and inspiration therefore depend on the respect we show beauty by not seeking to take hold of it. By learning to contemplate it each day in other beings, we can taste true life.
