Its capacity to absorb and transform waste; an exercise

Have you ever thought about the earth’s capacity for transforming the waste and even dead bodies it receives from the vegetable, animal and human kingdoms, to produce magnificent trees and flowers, cereal crops and succulent vegetables and fruits? What amazing alchemical laboratories it must have! Well, why not follow its example? You can even ask it to help you to accomplish this work of transformation within yourself.
Would you like me to show you an exercise? When you go walking in nature, sit down or lie on the ground, dig a little hole, put one finger in it and say, ‘O earth, my mother, you who have given me my body and nourish me each day, I thank you. But I have something else to ask of you: since you have the power to transform the most base matter, please take all my impurities, all my dirt, and work on them, and then give them back to me as matter that’s as transparent as a crystal.’ Remain for a few more moments in meditation, then thank the earth.
