Dead, the
What to do to maintain their presence
November 2nd 2015
When a loved one, a parent or a friend dies, it is natural to need to hold on to mementos: objects, letters, photos... But that is not enough to maintain their presence. For a being’s presence is not to be found in objects but in their spirit. And for as long as we remain focused on a few objects or looking at photos, it has nothing to do with spirit but with matter.
Going to spend quiet moments by their grave is also natural. But it is only the body in the grave, not the spirit. The spirit needs freedom, and it strives to free itself from the body and travel into the great vastness, its true homeland. If we suffer and shed tears at someone’s grave, as if the person lying in the coffin had to remain there for eternity, we restrict and hinder their spirit, which longs only to be free. We cannot be reunited with a loved one by crying over them. If you really wish to meet again, endeavour to look for them where they are – very far away and high up, in the light.
