Ordeals

Reveal people’s true nature

August 21st 2011
To know people – to know whether they are loyal, true, strong, wise and generous – you only have to observe how they go through ordeals. As long as everything is going well for them and nothing is troubling them or making them suffer, it is impossible to know what they are truly worth. If this were not the case, why do you think initiation begins with ordeals? You will have heard of the terrible ordeals to which initiates in ancient times subjected those who wanted to become their disciples. Obviously, in the Universal White Brotherhood, you will not be subjected to such ordeals, and anyway there is no need. But it is very difficult to win an initiate over, and for good reason: they will not accept you into their heart, soul and spirit before checking you out a little, for they cannot run the risk of entrusting their riches to a ship that is likely to sink in the first storm. But if they see the vessel is sturdy, that in spite of the storms the disciple seems stable, resilient and patient – then, yes, the initiate gives them everything they possess: their trust, their love, their respect and their treasures.
