Divine glory

A light into which we can enter

August 19th 2017
‘Praise be to God’... To understand what these words mean, it would be better for those who read or hear them to be less obsessed by human glories. So many naive and ignorant people think God is like one of many tyrannical and vain monarchs who expect people to worship their wealth, their qualities and their achievements and who are only satisfied if they appear greater than all those around them. God has no need for us to sing his praises, for nothing we might say of him could add anything to him. The entire universe and all the angelic hierarchies already sing his praise. Rather it is we who need to glorify him, so that we may enter into His light. And to glorify God, it is not enough to repeat endlessly that he is great, powerful and wise either. It is through our efforts to purify our thoughts, our feelings, our desires and our actions that we glorify God. In doing so we will enter into the light of divine glory and, wherever a ray of this light falls, we too will be present.
