Ideal of perfection, the

Given by jesus

In the Gospels, Jesus said, ‘If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain: "Move from here to there" and it will move.’ Or, ‘Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.’ But how can a human being, who is so weak, move a mountain? And with so many shortcomings, how can a human ever attain the perfection of the heavenly Father? It seems impossible. And so, because they lack understanding, because of their negligence and laziness – yes, especially their laziness – Christians disregard the word of the Gospel. It is so much easier to focus on human weaknesses and imperfections, deluding ourselves that in doing so we are demonstrating lucidity and modesty! Jesus, however, was not modest. He held the most exalted ambitions for human beings, who are created in God’s image – if they have the will, if they make an effort and they will get closer and closer to the perfection of their heavenly Father. And if they understand what true faith is and how to cultivate it, they will one day move mountains – that is to say all powers will be given to them, but first and foremost, powers over themselves.
