Vigilance and lucidity
Are indispensable to spiritual life

Every spiritual exercise, every effort to get closer to God and unite with him produces results. But just because for a few seconds you had the sensation of melting into the cosmic consciousness, you must not imagine that from now on your thoughts, feelings and actions will always be inspired by your divine nature, your higher self. No, unfortunately not. Your inferior nature will continue to have its say, do not be fooled. On the contrary, now more than ever, try to be most vigilant and lucid, for nothing is more harmful to spiritual life than failing to see oneself clearly.
To make mistakes is not so serious as long as you recognize them in order to make amends and avoid repeating them. What is serious, is to believe yourself inspired by the Holy Spirit, when in fact you are obeying your worst instincts.
