A divinity who does not yet know how to reveal itself

Even if it sounds as if you are exaggerating a little when you speak of someone’s good qualities, you are not really exaggerating, for in mentioning these qualities you are referring to their true self, their higher self. People are forever making comments about others! But it is not really them they are talking about: their physical appearance, their behaviour and the particular character traits they possess – none of it is them. So, what are they really? Divinities.
The Psalms tell us, ‘You are gods’, and these words were taken up by Jesus in the Gospel of St John. For the time being, of course, we don’t see much in the way of gods revealing themselves: they are buried somewhere, hidden under opaque layers, waiting to be discovered! But it’s not enough just to wait; you have to work at it.
