You need someone to keep reminding you that there are efforts to be made. If you have to wait for inspiration before getting down to work, you will not do a great deal. Inspiration is a grace, and we don’t know when it will appear. Where major endeavours are concerned, you will certainly make the best decisions if you wait for inspiration, but when it comes to making ongoing progress in your everyday life, you will constantly need to call on your will. And for that you need someone in the visible or invisible world to remind you what efforts and exercises are necessary.
Don’t be shocked by my insistence! If you have not assimilated basic truths, if you do not apply them, how can I take you any further? I could offer you sublime revelations today, but tomorrow there would be no trace of them, because you neglect the essential truths. So take three or four truths and study them deeply, and then each day you will be able to add new riches.
