Purity

Most people don’t have a clear idea of what purity really is, and they tend to limit it mainly to the area of sexuality. For them sexual abstinence is purity.
In reality, something is pure when it has not been soiled and corrupted by selfish thoughts and passionate feelings of lust, jealousy and possessiveness. To be pure it is not enough to abstain from all sexual relations. If only it were that simple! Our thoughts, feelings and desires are the places where impurities find their way in. These impurities then produce consequences in people’s general behaviour, including how they experience sexuality. But the sexual act can be experienced in the greatest purity.
