God

Sanctify his name, his 72 names

February 6th 2022
In the Lord’s Prayer Jesus says, ‘Hallowed be thy name.’ A blessing is linked to the realm of thought. It is primarily in our thoughts that we must bless God’s name. A name represents, condenses and contains the entity that bears it, so when we pronounce the name of God, we are calling Him and we are allowing Him to enter into us. We are making Him present. The Kabbalah teaches that the name of God is manifold; it is composed of seventy-two names, the knowledge of which requires long and arduous study. Those who know the seventy-two names of God are so permeated with the sanctity and light of God that they have only to pronounce them for God’s sanctifying presence to penetrate all things, all objects, creatures and living beings. Initiates are not content merely to recite, ‘Hallowed be thy name’; they truly sanctify it within themselves.
