True marriage
The union of the spirit and matter

The greatest initiates have always understood marriage, true marriage, as the union of the two principles, masculine and feminine, spirit and matter – the work of the spirit upon matter to give birth to a perfect life.
Matter is opaque, inert, shapeless; the spirit goes towards it to render it alive, luminous and expressive. Whereas the spirit is so subtle and intangible that it needs to find matter in order to materialize and condense itself. When the spirit succeeds in making matter more subtle, and when matter succeeds in condensing the spirit, they achieve unity, an extraordinary fusion, and this is true marriage.
