Willpower

It develops when conditions are difficult

When material conditions are ideal, our will does not have much opportunity to exert itself. It is when things are difficult and we are in need that we are obliged to exercise our will. All those who have stood out by reason of their exceptional character have always been beset by difficulties, privations, and even persecution in their lives. I am not saying this in order to encourage you to go out and look for poverty, illness or persecution. I simply want you to understand that the conditions you should seek are those that allow you to exercise your willpower and make progress on your upward path toward the divine world.*
