Karma
It should not be an excuse for doing nothing to help others
Knowledge of the law of karma should not be an excuse for indifference to the sufferings of others. Unfortunately, instead of thinking about all those who suffer, and deciding to do something for them, many so-called spiritual people who have heard of this law simply say, ‘Oh, it’s their karma to suffer’ and do nothing to help them. If the only use they make of their knowledge is to justify their own selfishness, it would sometimes be better for them if they had never heard of karma. Westerners always want to do something to help when they hear that other people are suffering, and this is a truly superior quality. It is magnificent to see how, whenever there is a famine, an epidemic, floods or earthquakes, they immediately organize assistance.*
