Inner face

That of our soul, which is different from our physical face

A human being’s inner face is different from their physical face. Our inner face is the face of our soul,* and it has no clearly and unalterably defined features by which it can be recognized. It is so closely dependent on our psychic life, on our thoughts and feelings that it is constantly changing – it will be luminous or sombre, harmonious or twisted, expressive or wooden, depending on the moment. This is the face we have to model, sculpt, paint and illuminate through prayer, meditation, contemplation and an elevated state of consciousness, so that one day it will imbue our physical face.
