Human beings need to be roused, stimulated and shaken up

Human beings need to see, to hear, to meet people, and even to receive shocks and to suffer, because they are so inert, numb and stagnant that if they do not receive stimulation from the outside world, if they are not roused and shaken up, they will do nothing. That is why we need instructors and Masters so much. Thanks to the life they lead, to their vibrations, to their very pure and luminous thoughts, these beings manage to stir something within us. And if they do not always succeed, it is not because they are incapable or weak, but because we have allowed ourselves to be buried beneath too many layers of lifeless, leaden material.*
