Alcohol and drugs
A harmful illusion of freedom
The soul needs infinite space, and when it feels restricted and suffocated, it seeks to escape by any means possible. Alcohol and drugs are among these means because they have the ability to drive the soul out of the physical body and thus give it, if only briefly, the illusion of freedom and space. But this is not a solution, because drugs are ultimately chemical substances given to the body. However, the need for escape comes from the soul not the body. Drugs are a sign that the soul is seeking to travel in infinite space, but drugs cannot satisfy the soul and, not only can they not satisfy it, but they destroy the body. That is why I do not advise anyone to use them, under any pretext whatsoever. Joy, dilation, freedom and fulfilment are to be sought by spiritual means.*
