Unity

Requires a higher, shared point of view

Human beings will never get along or achieve unity* unless their understanding and their attitudes are dictated by a higher point of view. As long as they continue to be ruled by their instincts and appetites, they will never understand each other. In order to begin to get along, we must enter the realm of feelings, for friendship, affinity and empathy help to draw people together. However, true unity will not be found in the realm of feelings because even there, human beings are often guided by self-interest and the desire for pleasure. You have to go higher, much higher, to the world of wisdom and reason, which is the world of principles. Truth becomes so self-evident on that level that everyone is obliged to see things in the same way.
