Control

Beginning to practise it during meals

April 17th 2012
Learning self-control is a difficult training. But you can begin with very simple exercises, like learning to control your movements during mealtimes. On the table there are dishes, plates, bottles, glasses, knives, etc. Do your best not to bang them when you move them, and you will see that this harmony is reflected in all your activities throughout the day. But taking care not to make a noise is not enough; you should also learn to pay attention to the food itself. Try putting your other concerns to one side, so that you think only of the food and marvel at all the forces, energy and vitality God has placed in it. When you have learned to eat in this state of harmony, you will be able to undertake the day’s tasks without tiring, simply because of what you practised while you were at the table.
