There exists a link between knowledge and inner freedom. Because human beings are so tied up inside, they are not free to discover the essential truths that would help them find their way through life. Many people will say that they consider freedom to be the most precious of all possessions, and they are even ready to fight for it. Yes, but the freedom they seek is not that which can offer the means to discover and understand essential truths.
On the contrary, these people fill their days with activities that shackle and blind them. They are like a man who is so weighed down by worries and grief that he is oblivious to the magnificent garden or countryside through which he is walking. All the wonders of heaven and earth are there around us, within us, but to see them, we have to be free, inwardly free.
