Wisdom

Has a cheerful quality

July 19th 2012
Contrary to what many imagine, wisdom is neither sad nor morose, because, in wisdom, true wisdom, there is also love – the heart and the mind work together. The sage’s lamp does more than cast the cold light of the rational mind, spotting and pointing out the slightest imperfection. Yes, it shines, but at the same time it also sheds its warmth and its love, and so it is cheerful. Yes, the sage’s lamp is full of cheer – like the sun. Objectively, the sun just looks like a ball of fire shining in the sky, but why then do children’s pictures show it with a big smile? Children instinctively understand something very important: they feel the cheerfulness in the sun’s light, just as they feel it in the dancing flame of a lamp.
