Games

For initiates, they were the transposition of life’s problems

Many of the games and sports played today were invented centuries ago by Initiates. Over time, most of them changed greatly; but more importantly, we now see only the outer aspect―their deeper meaning has been lost. For the Initiates, these games were a reflection of life, a transposition of the problems that each of us has to solve, for there is an irrefutable law by which the same phenomena are to be found in one form or another on the physical, psychic and spiritual planes.
Since games are a reflection of the problems that we encounter in life, why not tackle our problems as if they were games? Instead of feeling overwhelmed or irritated by every little difficulty, tell yourself, ‘Here is another opportunity to practise, let’s see how I do.’ Carefully assess the nature of the difficulty you have to face, and then set yourself a challenge. For instance, you might say, ‘I won’t stop until I reach my goal... I will overcome this obstacle…’ Yes, you need to challenge yourself in this way from time to time, just as athletes do: you will see that the trials of life will seem easier to bear, and that it is in overcoming them that you will find happiness.
