Negative states
Change them by concentrating immediately on peace and light

If, when you are out and about, you find yourself besieged by negative thoughts and feelings, do not accept them passively. Stop immediately in front of a shop window, for instance, as though you were looking at the display, and concentrate for a few seconds on drawing peace and light into yourself. A few moments later, you will feel lighter as you go on your way again.
Most people are unaware of these methods; they are bothered to no end by their negative states, but they put up with them all day long. It never occurs to them to pause for a moment in a park or near a fountain, to try and change the course of their thoughts a little through contact with the trees, flowers or water. Instead, they go to a pub for a drink and to watch the passers-by, after which they leave with their troubles intact. And when they get home in the evening, they pass on their sadness or their bad mood to their spouse and their children. Isn’t time to stop living so unconsciously and irresponsibly?
