If we improve it, we will have a greater influence on the outer world

When we exercise our will in the realm of thought, we observe that whatever the external conditions may be, we are always free to act. But when we want to act on the outside, our ability to do so depends on external conditions, and we are often rendered powerless. We must therefore cultivate our outer side for society, and our inner side for ourselves and for that within us that touches the whole world. Ideally, we should not develop our outer side more than our inner one: we have to live a physical life, but in such a way that the soul and spirit do not suffer as a result. We must free ourselves from the grip of those external trappings that make us slaves, in order to live a rich, beautiful and expansive psychic life.
Our thoughts and feelings reach far, far out into space, and thanks to them, we can establish contact with the universe, whereas our actions touch only a few people. But if we improve our inner world by intensifying our love and faith, we will have a greater and greater influence on the outer world as well.
