Binah is on the pillar of severity and represents the feminine principle in creation

Binah is the first sephirah on the left pillar of the Tree of Life, the Pillar of Severity, which represents the feminine principle in creation. God manifests Himself there under the name of Jehovah. He is the fearsome God who revealed Himself to Moses. The Old Testament resounds with his wrath, his threats and the curses that would punish human beings until the fourth generation.
You may ask yourself, ‘How can this fearsome God be a feminine power?’ It is because this feminine power represents the reality of nature. This concept is easier to understand if you think about what nature really is: an implacable mother. Nature has created laws and if you break these laws, you are punished in some way or other. And, by inference, this punishment will be meted out even to your children and your grandchildren. Take the well-known example of alcoholism. People who abuse alcohol not only harm their physical and mental health, but also pass on a tainted heredity to their descendants. The same goes for other types of excess and transgressions. There, now it is clear.
