Temples, talismans and photos are ladders by which to reach the lord

For the image of a saint or an Initiate to be of help to you, you must not address only the picture itself. You must use it as a ladder, as it were, by which to climb up and reach that saint, or even the Lord Himself. Every icon, every temple, every one of these is a ladder. Even the photograph of an Initiate or a great Master can do nothing to heal or save you if you do not use it to seek his spirit. This is the true teaching: it destroys nothing, it constructs.
And if someone of great spirituality gives you an object that they have blessed, you must not reject it; it is a talisman. But do not imagine that it has any great intrinsic power of its own. No, you must use it to try and rise much higher, much further; to unite yourself to the cosmic force with which it is imbued: only then will this object do you any good.
