Balance

Between the periphery and the centre, matter and spirit

November 17th 2026
Existence is such that human beings are continually obliged to go out of themselves. As soon as they wake up in the morning they move towards the outer world: they look and listen and talk to others; they leave home to go to work or to shop for food and supplies; they visit friends, go for walks, travel or look for entertainment. This is all very well, but in the long run, they get so caught up in all their external activities that they lose touch with themselves. They no longer know who they really are. And when this happens, not only do they make mistakes because they cannot see things clearly, but they become weakened, and the slightest shock or adversity leaves them distraught.
It is normal for human beings to go out of themselves, every contact with the outside world forces them to do so. But to avoid going adrift, they must constantly strive to maintain the balance between the inner and the outer worlds, between the periphery and the centre, between matter and spirit.
