Involution and evolution

Matter is inert and formless, and spirit, by coming down and entering it, gives it life and shapes it. This is a process that can be seen everywhere in nature in many different ways. Spirit comes down to animate matter – this is involution – and matter, animated by spirit, goes back up – this is evolution. Evolution would not have been possible without prior involution. Otherwise, where would the forces, the energies, have come from to allow forms to diversify and become refined?
The evolution of material forms – of stones, plants, animals and humans – has only been made possible by the descent of the spirit. It is a cosmic law that spirit must come down for matter to be able to rise and evolve.
