Elements, the four

Make up the substance of creation

March 5th 2013
Earth, water, air and fire – the four elements – make up the substance of all creatures in the universe. These elements make it possible for everything to come into being, from stones all the way to the throne of God, including the angelic hierarchies; and depending on the amount and proportion of each element, creatures belong to this or that class or category. In fact, we still do not know the four elements. Earth, water, air and fire appear to us on the physical plane in their densest, most material form. But the true earth, water, air and fire are found at the top of the Tree of Life, in the sephirah Kether. Traditionally they are represented as a bull, an eagle, a man and a lion. Christians call them the seraphim, and the Cabbalah Hayoth haKodesch, ‘the holy animals’.
