Purity
Synonymous with disinterestedness
August 30th 2013
What is purity? Contrary to what many people think, it is not particularly concerned with sexual matters; sexuality is just one limited aspect of it. There are other higher, more essential forms of purity. True purity is found first in thoughts, feelings and desires: it is a virtue that consists in not keeping the good we possess just for ourselves. We must try in any way we can to let others benefit from everything we learn and everything we acquire. As for impurity, it is egocentricity in all its forms.
Wanting to be pure so that you can protect and save yourself better is still not purity. A truly pure person seeks purity only in order to be able to give more to others and to give only what is most precious in themselves. Only those who have worked on acquiring this purity are worthy of receiving initiation.
