Body –physical symmetry and psychic polarization

April 15th 2024
Our physical body is built symmetrically on either side of a central axis – the spinal column – and in this regard, it can be said to be governed by the number 2. We have 2 eyes and 2 ears, and although the brain and nose seem to be 1, they are really 2, with 2 hemispheres and 2 nostrils. Then there are 2 lungs, 2 kidneys, and, lower down, a man has 2 testicles and a woman 2 ovaries. Finally, we have 2 arms and 2 legs.
Even though this symmetry is rarely perfect, as the left side of our bodies is never an exact replica of the right, still it remains a physical fact. But our psyche is quite different. Studies of the human brain show that the functions of the two hemispheres are not identical: the left hemisphere controls all analytical faculties (logic and reason), which can be described as masculine, and the right hemisphere is the seat of the faculties of synthesis (intuition and sensitivity), which can be considered feminine. So the activities of these two hemispheres are complementary. We can therefore say that our physical bodies are constructed symmetrically, whereas our psyche is based on the polarization of masculine and feminine – positive and negative.*
