Four elements

Recognizing that they are part of our daily life

November 4th 2013
Daily life is a series of events and encounters we do not always pay enough attention to. Breathing, eating, drinking, washing, receiving the sun’s light and warmth – are these not events and encounters? Not only is our life made up of these events and encounters, it also depends on them. We come into contact with the four elements every day: with the earth when we eat, with water when we drink and wash ourselves, with air as we breathe, with fire when we receive the sun’s light and warmth. Indeed, the four elements are not just forces of nature that make themselves known only when phenomena such as earthquakes, storms or volcanic eruptions occur. They are part of our ordinary everyday life, and we can consciously enter into a daily relationship with them.
