Law of exchange

Must be respected on the psychic plane as well as the physical plane

Harmonious social life can only be based on fair exchange, and fair exchange can be summed up in two words: give and take. If we have the right to take, we must be able to give in return. On the material plane, it is clear to everyone what constitutes a fair exchange. But that is not enough, since the law of exchange affects all areas of life. Someone may say, ‘I’m honest, I pay my taxes, I pay my employees, I support my family, I don’t cheat on my wife, I help my elderly parents…’ That’s fine, but is it enough? How does this person really behave with his parents, his wife and his children? How does he respond to their affection? Why is it that they sometimes feel he is a stranger or a tyrant? It is so much easier to be honest and fair on the material plane than on the psychic plane! We even see people display all kinds of outward signs of honesty, all the better to hide their dishonesty in their intellectual and emotional relationships. They manage to deceive others (though not always), but they do not deceive divine justice, for divine justice sees things differently from human justice when it comes to defining ‘taking’ and ‘giving’.
