Mountains, trees and rivers

Connect the world below and the world above

June 4th 2019
We cannot comprehend what life is based on the phenomena we see in the physical world, for they only represent a part of it, an aspect of it. However, as they are the only ones directly available to our five senses, we must look to them to reflect on the more subtle, vaster, more universal realities. All the spiritual traditions take mountains, trees and rivers as particularly rich and meaningful symbols. Why? Because from time immemorial, humans have seen in them a representation of cosmic life. Mountains, trees and rivers connect the world below to the world above. But whereas the mountain and the tree rise towards the heights, the river, whose source is in the mountain, descends and ends up joining the sea, a symbol of the depths. All life on Earth comes from the sea and will one day return to the sea.
