Lower and higher nature
Ignore the advice of your lower nature but follow that of your higher nature

The moment someone causes you the slightest offense, your lower nature says, ‘Teach him a lesson, bite him, hit back!’ Whereas your higher nature says, ‘Don’t let it bother you, old chap, that’s how it is, so instead of brooding and trying to get revenge, try to use and transform this vexation. You are an alchemist – you will turn it into gold.’ If you listen to this voice, you will embark on a wonderful work of transformation and you will grow.
The higher nature says more: ‘Why do you cry for hours on end when you are given the opportunity to get to work? You must even thank heaven that this person was sent to present you with the opportunity to surpass yourself. And you sit there complaining? How stupid you are!’ True disciples ignore the advice given by their lower nature, which supports their weakness and sentimentality: they follow the advice of their higher nature, for they wish to become strong.
