As it has appeared in human beings but recently, it is still fragile

Over hundreds and even thousands of years, instincts have had plenty of time to develop and to become entrenched in human beings. Whereas intelligence, reasoning and wisdom, which appeared in them much more recently, are still very fragile. In reality, intelligence and wisdom existed long before all these other manifestations, but as they belong to regions far removed from human beings, they have a long way to travel before they can manifest in them, and indeed, they are not always welcomed.
Wisdom predates the creation of the world. It is written in the Book of Proverbs, ‘The Lord created me, wisdom, at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth…When he marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside him, like a master worker, and I was daily his delight.’ So, wisdom appeared first, but it only settled itself in human beings a short time ago, and that is why, while instinct is solidly entrenched and resistant, wisdom is still very fragile.
