Do so in a state of harmony and meditation

Eating is a process by which we introduce materials into our organism that will contribute to the building not only of our physical body, but of our subtle bodies as well. So, it is particularly important to carry out this act – which we repeat every day, several times a day – in a state of peace and harmony. This is why I always stress the importance of meditating for a few minutes before meals. I know that this is not a very widespread habit, and that most people do not even say a prayer: they instantly pounce on the food, swallowing it while talking, squabbling and clattering the cutlery. That is why they obtain no great benefits from food; they absorb only its crude elements. In order to absorb the subtle, etheric elements of our food, we must prepare ourselves to eat it in a harmonious and meditative state.*
