Inner life and chemistry
Governed by the same laws
Chemists study the constitution and properties of different substances and the conditions (temperature, proportions, etc.) that make it possible to transform them. Very good! But what use is all that to humans if they fail to understand that the same laws apply in their inner lives? That is the trouble; they do not know this. They think that however they go about it, whatever the circumstances, whatever the elements (thoughts, feelings and desires) they introduce into themselves, they will still get what they want. No, thoughts, feelings and desires are like chemical substances and their properties are just as diverse, so when you bring them together and combine them, the results will also be extremely varied. The laws are the same in the physical and psychic worlds, and it is more important for our inner balance and growth to know the laws of psychic chemistry; otherwise we run the risk of poisoning or burning ourselves, or of blowing everything up.*
