Difficult conditions

They provide us with the greatest opportunities for growth

Difficult conditions often provide us with the greatest opportunities for growth, precisely because we are in a tight spot. Observe how a tree in the forest resolves this problem. In a forest, all the trees are so close together that if one of them wants to spread out, the others prevent it. So this tree says to itself, ‘I have been dealt some terrible conditions, but I will find a solution.’ It cannot spread its branches to the side, it is true, but nothing can stop it from thrusting upwards. In that direction there is open space, free of any obstacles.
It is the same for human beings. When we can no longer go forward, backwards or sideways, the only way left is to head upwards, that is to say, to enter the realm of the spirit. For in this direction, nothing can stand in the way of our aspirations.*
