Scientific progress

It poses great danger for humanity

Scientific progress has brought us greater comfort and safety; it has made travel and communications easier; it has given us more medicines and more sophisticated machines in the home, as well as in schools, factories, hospitals, and so forth. But when you think about it, you realize that all this progress concerns only the material plane and as such, it can pose great dangers to humanity.
These dangers are complacency, laziness and weakness. You will ask, ‘So what should we do? Must we renounce technical progress?’ No, but instead of giving way to indolence, and imagining that these discoveries and innovations will solve all our problems, we need to counterbalance them with our spiritual activity. It is this activity that will enable us to continue to make progress and become stronger, but on another plane.
Rather than extinguishing the spirit, material progress should incite us to revive our inner flame. If human beings are not careful, the technical progress that should help them to flourish will end up destroying them.*
