Material affairs

They are never settled once and for all

October 18th 2025
It is generally believed that we have to put our material affairs in order before taking up a spiritual life. We tell ourselves, ‘First of all I need a job. Then I intend to marry and raise a family, and this will keep me busy for many years. But afterwards, I will be free, and I will devote myself to the spiritual life.’ We fail to realize that this way of thinking is a clever trap laid by our lower nature, our personality, to keep us as far away as possible from true life.
If you wait until you have sorted out all your affairs before embracing the spiritual life, you will never do anything, because material affairs are never settled once and for all. There are always unforeseen events that have to be dealt with. So you should set out on a spiritual path no matter what the state of your material affairs. Why? Because when you give priority to the spiritual life, you are working on the world of causes, and thus you are preparing the best conditions for the gradual improvement of all your material concerns.*
