Prepare yourself to live in the sublime regions

When people are asked if they would like to live in heaven, most will say, ‘Well yes, of course!’ What they do not know is that you must prepare yourself if you want to live in heaven. You cannot live in the higher regions if you do not possess the means, otherwise you will be there for only a minute before running back to earth saying, ‘But they don’t have cigarettes up there, not even pubs or nightclubs! And I long to smoke, have a drink and kiss pretty women. I want to go back down again.’ If you wish to live in the sublime regions, you must not have such coarse needs. This is why not everybody is ready to live in heaven. Even if human beings are put there forcibly, they will soon leave complaining, ‘It’s quite unbearable, we’re dying here!’
Yet, that is no reason not to try to adapt to divine life. Humanity has evolved during the millions of years it has been on earth, and if you make the effort to practise meditation every day, putting certain cells in your brain to work, you can go very far—even so far as to dwell in the regions of the divine world.*
