Hardships

They are not synonymous with unhappiness

A spiritual teaching is not going to tell you that no matter what is happening in your life, you should keep naively repeating, ‘I am happy, I am happy’. It will simply tell you that hardships are not truly synonymous with disaster, and that they need not prevent you from being happy on certain planes, which is not the same thing.
Suffering and unhappiness are terrible realities that absolutely cannot be denied. But whatever the ordeals you encounter, you can always work with your powers of thought so that you are able not only to hold fast in the midst of these trials, but to emerge from them enriched. And you will not keep these riches to yourself. Through your attitude and the way you deal with events, you will share them with others.
