To identify with the spirit is to rise above the clouds

In order to be free we must identify with our spirit. Gradually, as this identification becomes effective, we become stronger and better able to rise above our circumstances.
To use an analogy, we could say that to identify with the spirit is to rise above the clouds. Those who remain below the clouds are at their mercy; they cannot see the sun unless the clouds obligingly move out of the way, and in the meantime they are subject to darkness, cold, fog and rain. And as they do not realize that this situation is of their own making, they complain that the sun is hiding from them, that God has forsaken them. It is simply not true. They have this impression because they have remained below the cloud level. If they knew how to raise their consciousness above the clouds and keep it there, they would immediately be inundated with light. The sun is always shining above the blanket of clouds.*
