Right and wrong
To tell which is which, put yourself in the other person’s shoes
April 9th 2026
Some people claim that the notions of good and evil are so complex that it is impossible for them to tell whether something in life is right or wrong, just or unjust. But of course they can, with mathematical certainty, in fact. All they have to do is put themselves in the place of the person to whom they want to say or do something. For example, if they want to make fun of someone or punch them, let them start by making fun of themselves and giving themselves a few hard knocks. They will soon realize that it is not good. And if it is not good for them, it will not be good for the other person either. How is it that upon receiving a blow they know that it is not good? Dear Lord, what wisdom, what science illuminates them all of a sudden!
Indeed, take someone who claims not to know the difference between right and wrong, give them a bit of a hard time—offend or insult them, rob them or slap them around a bit—you will soon see that they know all the laws and statutes! How strange that when they do something to others, they no longer know right from wrong. That is really amazing!
