Faults
They must be put to work, for work mobilizes all our potential
October 16th 2026
So many people bemoan the fact that human nature is sinful and carries within itself the seeds of evil. But there is nothing to bemoan, only work to be done. Whether it be vanity, pride, anger, jealousy or sensuality, all faults must be put to work. That is the only proper way of looking at things, the only good solution. Work is what counts. Do not concern yourself with anything else; your qualities and faults are of secondary importance. Once you have found what the best work is, and have made up your mind to devote yourself to it whole-heartedly, both your qualities and your faults will become excellent servants.
Let’s take a very simple example: you want to lift a heavy weight. All the energy held in potential in your physical body is there to give you a helping hand: muscles, heart, lungs and even your brain partake in this action. But if you have no wish to do anything, all your organs are disengaged. It is work that mobilizes all your potential. Through work, a criminal can end up surpassing the most virtuous of people in generosity, patience and kindness. Whereas those who are thought to be the most outstanding achieve very little, because they give no thought to work.
