Hatred

A bond just as powerful as that of love; to be free, do not detest anyone

Whether you love or hate someone, you bind yourself to them, for the bond of hatred is as strong as that of love. If you want to be free of someone who torments you and never see them again, do not detest them, be indifferent to them. If you hate them you will be binding yourself to them with chains that nobody can ever break. They will always be with you; you will have to deal with them for years and even centuries to come. Yes, people do not realize this.
They imagine that by hating someone they are distancing themselves from them. On the contrary, hatred is a force that binds us to the one we hate just as powerfully as love. The bond is different, of course: love brings certain things with it, hatred brings others, but it brings them just as surely and as powerfully as love.
